Key Largo - Kawama Yacht Club
We have 5 nights planned to stay in the Keys. I have already got accommodation booked at Islamorada but the cost is horrendous - £1700. I can cancel without penalty so have been thinking about tryng to find alternative accommodation - 2 adults and 2 teenages (DD and DS). I don't really want to have one hotel room as all 4 of us cramped into one room isn't fun.
I have found the Kawama Yacht Club at Key Largo - has anyone stayed there? Reviews are mixed. TripAdvisor says its run down but reviews on the various booking sites look like things have picked up after Irma rennovations. Is touring the Keys from Key Largo doable? Any tips for staying at Key Largo - restaurants, alternative accommodation, things to do etc. We will definitely be visiting John Pennekamp. Thanks in advance

Cant help on your location - sorry.
We only have one night at Key Largo on our way down to the Keys. We have booked Amy Slate Amory dive resort for one night. We have also looked at the Seafarer - which we would have booked if we were staying more than one night. Seafarer looks basic but maybe you could have 2 rooms? Amy Slates is even more basic but the reviews are great. |

Can’t help with Largo but we stayed few nights on Key West in Perry Hotel and had amazing time. Still quite a bit of drive from Largo to Key West if you are planning to go that far down.

Sorry, I realised I have t replied to say thank you for your responses. We’ve booked a townhouse at Kawama as we like to have a bit of space. Fingers crossed it will be ok

Try Ragged Edge Resort and Breezy Palms in Islamorada, not posh but both have 2 bedroom units which are ideal. We've stayed at the Islander but far prefer the above two "Keysey" type places.

I see you’ve got accommodation sorted but in terms of other recs - we ate at Hobo’s Cafe when we stopped over at Key Largo for a night, their conch fritters and key lime pie were delicious.
We stayed at the Hampton and you could see manatees in the basin from there. We also did a boat trip to see the coral etc at the John pennecamp park.
