gopro alterative?
I'd love to get some video footage of our trip and I know go pro's are popular but I really don't want to spend that kind of money on something I'll only really be using for a week.
Anyone have any recommendations for something similar without the hefty price tag? thanks in advance |

If you have a search on amazon for action camera there are loads of similar cameras for around £40-60. I haven’t tried one myself but a lot of them have 5 star reviews! I’m eyeing one up myself!

Ive had and can recommend amazon/SJCAM-Water...s=p_89%3ASJCAM very close to the quality of a true GoPro, the only reason I changed it for a true was the bit rate of recording, the details weren't there in the shadows, but for rare rather than constant use I can whole heartedly recommend it

These cheaper go-pro alternatives even have their own noun. They are called 'faux-pros'

I bought an Akaso one from Amazon. The only negative I would say about it is the sound when in the waterproof housing isnt very good. Its very quiet. But the video quality is amazing. Very sharp and was great for in the pool and water parks. You can get a charger and 2 x spare batteries for about £20 which was well worth it.

avoid the cheaper knockoffs, they arent nearly as good quality as the SJCAM unit have a look at youtube comparison videos - search for "sj4000 vs gopro" hth |

I'm a great fan of the SJcam cameras, at the moment I'm using a SJCam 7 Star which shoots great video upto 4K but I tend to shoot 1800p. At 1800p the SJAM 7-star has image stabilization which works great. The only small problem is slight audio interference when its wifi is turned on.

Would one of those SJ ones mentioned above be good for filming whilst river tubing and white water rafting? We had planned to buy a GoPro but I’m not convinced we will get the use out of it. Do you use them as ‘regular’ cameras and videos as well? Or just for ‘action’?
(We are going river tubing and white water rafting for two days when we are in New England in the summer, but the rest of the time, we will be doing basic sight seeing and we aren’t ones for filming rides etc in Disney). Sorry to jump on to this thread and ask probably dumb questions -but I don’t really understand all of the lingo! |

theyll be fine for what you need - the sj4000 comes with a bunch of accessories and the waterproof shell, so unless you want some specific mounts/straps, you should have enough for what you plan on doing
i'm the least "action" person i know... i mostly use my SJ4000s for recording band gigs (i do visuals for a friends band) - they are really handy - just strap them to the microphone stand (or drumkit/wherever!) and edit it all together as a stills camera, it isnt great, due to the wideangle/fisheye lens but other than that, i use it for laods of stuff. most of the live footage on this video was shot on SJ4000 cameras... hth |
