Ramen in Tokyo - all that visible fat!
Research for my upcoming trip in May has involved lots of YouTube videos , and ramen looks like a food I could enjoy, but all the meats appear to have so much visible fat on the meat.
I am not a big fan of fish, but like most other meats like beef, pork etc - but all the ones I have seen has the meat with huge strips of fat around the meat. Is it ok to remove the visible fat myself and leave it, or is that an insult to the place am eating ? Or do chicken ramen ? Edited at 07:44 PM. |

In all the pork ramen I’ve had in Japan, the fat has been properly rendered down and so doesn’t have the “fatty” texture you might expect from seeing it. I’d always recommend you try it, but usually there is a selection of different kinds on offer and you may be able to get e.g. breaded pork cutlet instead. It will depend where you eat!

I have eaten in several ramen places in London and never had a problem with this.

I'm not keen on fatty meat either, but this honestly wasn't a problem we encountered in Japan - as above it was all well cooked and delicious!

This one for example - but all the ones I have seen I think have big chunks of fat on them |
