Picking car from MCO and drive to Daytona

Morning everyone,

Anyone want to put my mind at rest a little? We are flying into MCO 12th AUgust and will land at 3.30pm We will use the disability border control access line so shouldnt be hanging around too long.

We then pick up our car and head off to Daytona. BUT im really worried about weather and driving that far. Last year we arrived into a storm and the sat nav wasnt working in the multistory car park so I had no idea where we were heading out to and found it really stressful. Weather was awful, couldnt read road signs and we were only 15 mins drive from the airport then.

This time seems so much more daunting. Any words of advise or tips are most welcome.

Thanks x

It is a really straightforward drive, around an hour depending on traffic. If the weather was really bad you could grab a coffee at the airport and wait until it clears. Take the slip road for downtown Orlando then merge onto 408 West. After 2 or 3 miles it’s the I 4 East where you stay until you come to 92 E signposted Daytona Beach. It won’t be as bad as you think!

The sat nav will never work in the garage, as it can’t “see” satellites.
The weather will be what it is. Just wait a short while and most probably the thunderstorms will pass.
Hiring an SUV can help as it gets you up higher out of the road spray as opposed to a saloon ( sedan).

Not far to Daytona, an hour or so will see you there. Easy drive. Look up the route on Google maps before you go, note down the road numbers, so if the sat nav hasn’t kicked in you can at least start the journey.
You will be fine. Don’t waste your precious time worrying about the weather, as you have no control over it, so stressing is pointless. It will be what it is.
Now go and focus on the positive of your holiday and enjoy the build up to it

All above is good advice... if you leave the airport and the sat nav fails to pick up a signal quickly, dont panic, just join which ever road is in front of you, try to keep right and take the first place you see on your right to stop and re-navigate your route / bearings if you feel lost.

Driving becomes stressful when people make themself stressed. If you are travelling in the wrong direction, dont worry its not end of the world, as i mention, take the first opportunity to stop and check a map or sat nav - even if you start heading south, you can always take the 417 east south of the airport and if for any reason you are heading west... take the next slip road and spin it...

Make sure you download Google maps offline onto a couple of phones and have phone chargers etc to hand for when in the car.

Dont worry, also, ensure you have a bag of change with you in-case you come across any unmanned tolls.

Relax and enjoy.
