a bit OT but do these have an expiry date as we are not far off one but probably wont need/want to use it till next year, so we may have peaked to early ?

It has a 2 year validity.

Depends on the card by which you've earned the companion voucher; most are 2 years but some are just 1 year so you need to check when the voucher is loaded onto your airline account; expiry date should be shown on there.

I never churn cards but buy most stuff on the Virgin Credit Card, not as good as the now defunct MBNA Virgin Card but not bad.

Do you have the one that you pay the fee for? If so is that added on at the beginning of the year or the end? Quite tempted to get this card instead of the Amex.

I have the one you pay the annual fee for. The 'freebies' if you hit the 10K target are added on at the anniversary of the Card being approved.

We just got DH's gold amex two weeks ago so hopefully we should get the bonus. Got to think of other ways to boost the miles now, does anyone think the tesco sim deal is worth it?

Hhhmmm. Applied for a card a week ago. Had live chatted someone and they said i was good for the sign up. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, surprised they let it go on as long as they did. Was still well worth using while it was available.

Might be the end of avios collecting for me. Without the sign up bonuses i doubt we will hit more than 30 to 40k avios a year. Might be time to go back to their cashback card instead.

Head for points had a look at it...

Works out at a cost of 0.42p per avios. That is pretty cheap in terms of buying avios. But i preferred the free ones on a sign up bonus!

If you have a use for the sims it would make more sense.

This was very disappointing news to get this morning. I don't think I can earn enough Avios without churning in order to redeem a 2-4-1 every year, or even not every 2 years. The gravy train may be over which is a shame. I assume they've done their maths as they will be losing a lot of spend. We probably put £20k or more through it annually.

One strategy that comes to mind is continual referrals between me and DW. Each referral should still earn 9,000 and probably no reason we couldn't do that every couple of months - apart from it looking very dodgy and a possible credit score issue!

I also need to work out what to do with my current pile of Avios. I've got 175k or so, and a 2-4-1 voucher still to trigger by May (holding it £50-ish short of triggering at the moment). That's enough for a good redemption anywhere really and likely will leave me with some spare. It's also close enough to 200k that I could strive for another voucher and get 2x100k redemptions to NYC or similar.

Plenty to think about.
