Will also get the Virgin one and keep that running for all our other spends and hopefully get to the target for a companion flight.
So would you just get the card and cancel it just to activate the referral? Sorry, just not understanding where the 6 month bit comes in 🤦🏼

You can still get the 9000 points for referring someone. So hubby will refer me next month (i will not of had an account for 6 months at this point)

I then get my card, he gets the 9000 points and we cancel his card. In a further 6 months then we will do the same except it will be me who refers him.

The cards will be used though as I use the Amex for petrol etc from Costco.

Yes the person who refers still gets the 9000 as long as the person they refer has not had an account for 6 months.

I spoke to Amex today just to clarify this still works and they said yes as long as you follow the 6 month rule.

Thanks for this.
So you can still do the 6 month churn and get 9K per time. That makes it still worth it for me.

I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons of referrals every 6 months. So I could take a card next month and refer DH getting me 9k points. If I then cancel and leave it another 6 months he can then refer me back, get 9k and cancel. So we'd be looking at around 36k in referrals over a 2 year period versus just letting the 24 month window come round and getting my usual 53k in a cycle (22k for min spend, 9k to refer DH, 22k for his min spend). That's a lot of numbers lol.

Good article on the options now.

headforpoints/2019/0...sign-up-bonus/

The Platinum card he is suggesting has a £450 fee. But there are a lot of benefits that might be of interest. And if not, then you can cancel for a pro rata refund. So take that card out just before you drop a holiday cost on it and you could probably open and close it in only a few weeks.

Not sure what we will do. But thankfully I applied for a new card about a week ago and that arrived yesterday - can see on the app the sign up bonus is there. So have that last card to get through first!

Possible plus from all of this is that availability may well go up a lot. That would actually tempt me to keep going even if at a slower rate.

I'm also going to investigate the Gold Business Rewards card. I'm a registered business seller on ebay but I need to speak to them about the ins and outs of their eligibility. I need to actually pull my finger out and start to look into other ways of earning miles. Think I got a bit complacent with the 'easy' 100k of miles annually with this card.

Yes as long as it stays as it is you can still get effectively 18k per year between the two of you so still worth having imo.
