Hi,

We did a self drive Alaska trip a couple of years ago...

We flew into Vancouver and then flew to Anchorage.
Drove south from anchorage to Homer 1st day (for bears and fishing)
Then we drove from Homer to Seward (amazing glacier kayak excursion and walks).
Drove from Seward to summit lake for a couple of days (conservation centre and glacier hike!
Then on to Wasilla (Sarah palin's hometown just north of anchorage) for the matanuska glacier and abandoned gold mine.
Then we drove to Talkeetna for ziplining
And finally on to Denali National Park (white water rafting and walking) for 2 days
We drove back to Anchorage and flew from there to Seattle.

The food was amazing - wild Alaskan salmon and halibut ...

We had 8 days in total in Alaska.
One thing to bear in mind is that you must book up your car and hotels well in advance as the season is so short there, things book up. We heard someone at the car hire desk being told there were no cars due in for 3 weeks!
