We have shopped with Tesco from day 1 (dial-up modem days!) and have found them to be very good at substitutions.

At the moment they are pretty overwhelmed, taking on new staff for picking who don't have the experience yet, and have seen from the past few weeks that you can help them greatly in a tricky job by putting a comment in the individual product substitutions - they will try their best for you - no comment often means no subs for fear of putting something wrong when returns take up the drivers time now - they ask before handing over the goods now here since they can't take returns if they have been in your hands/house.

So if you really need loo roll, put against your usual one that you will accept any loo roll as a substitute. Same with pasta - we usually have dried, but comment we will accept any dried or fresh.

Anything we can do to help these new staff members in these difficult times has to be a good thing.

we are due our first delivery from Tesco tomorrow night and are shielding, so can I just confirm that they automatically leave bagged food outside the door as couldn't see where to leave a note that we won't open the door. TIA

There is a box on the left hand side of the checkout page, where you can tell them that you are shielding and tell them that you will not answer the door.

Our Tesco delivery man, put the shopping next to the door, knocks and then stands at the bottom of the drive, to see if everything is ok with any subs.
