Injection l2&l4?
Our breeder told us not to get l2&4 injection on our pup. Vet says they would 100% advise for getting it. Any dinner have knowledge about this component of the 2nd set of jabs?

I assume this is Lepto2 and Lepto4, our dogs are both vaccinated with Lepto2. When we adopted our second one she had previously had the Lepto4 jab but when she had her boosters we opted for 2 as our vet said 4 would normally be used if they travelled on a pet passport, which she had with her original family.
I know some people don't have annual boosters but test instead to see it's needed. Personally I would vaccinate a puppy to ensure protection. I know there is a lot of discussion online about the rights and wrongs of the Lepto jabs, as with any vaccine it's a personal decision. Edited at 05:12 PM. |

We have now run into the problem that the breeder got her 1st set of jabs at her vet using Versican, but no vet up here uses that brand and we have to redo the whole process again! This wee lady is desperate to get out for walks so really feel for her, but a local vet will give her a brand that will see her out in 3 weeks time xx
We will give her the L2 but not the L4. Edited at 10:48 PM. |

Does your breeder have veterinary or pharmacology qualifications?
Lepto is a horrific disease passed on mainly by rats - even dogs swimming in water that is rat infested can contract it. It causes jaundice as it affects the liver. Dogs that contract it are lucky to survive and if they do it is only by intensive care/fluid therapy, a cocktail of medication and lots of luck. Sometimes all the nursing we can throw at a lepto case is not enough and the unthinkable happens which is soul destroying for all concerned. L4 covers more strains of the disease than L2 that's the difference hence the higher number. Edited to add that it is also a transmissible disease so can be passed from dog to human... Contracting it through water was one example of transmission. Can be passed on by contact with other dogs too
