To be honest they don't look very well painted so don't think they would be from a prestigious artist and could be anyone - a country squire and a parson. If you friend wants to know then there my be clues in signatures at Botton right of the paintings or on the back - take them out of the frame (and may need a bit of a clean ) - a local auction house would be my second port of call it will cost them to have them appraised

Art is my passion as you know but afford I cant help much further at the moment . See if you can clean bottom right a bit and take a photo of any sig then I can have a delve into my books

I thought the top one was george Washington
In fact if you google some images of him then the second pic could be him too
I'm probably wrong !
