Carers
Tried today to register DH as DD main carer, they wouldnt do this without an official ‘letter’ - am trying to get one from school, they did say one from social services , but i expect they are quite busy with the pandemic. He doesnt get carers allowance as earns too much from pensions etc. Any ideas of where i can get additional ‘proof’
I suspect there are many carers out there who dont qualify for CA but are still classes as main carer for someone with special needs.

Do you mean register him as a Carer with your GP? Won’t they just accept him as being a Carer by virtue of being the father of a person with a disability? You might want to register him for all sorts of reasons, but just in case it was related to the current situation, I thought I’d mention carers and priority lists...
As an unpaid Carer, I think he would be in priority 6 for the vaccine, but that would be the same with or without Carers’ Allowance; only those employed as carers were given higher priority. Either way, hope you get it sorted. EC |

He is priority 5 on list for vac anyway, but i expect there are lots of people who dont get carers allowance who are the carers of relatives etc. He used to get carers then we supposedly earned too much so that was stopped, this has not affected the amount of time spent caring for DD. I suppose some would try to use it to jump the queue without actually being a carer. School have done letter.

I do wonder how they are going to tell who is a carer for Group 6 vaccinations? My husband is my daughter's main carer but works so does not receive carer's allowance. He is registered as a carer at the GP but they have said that will only ensure he is entitled to a flu vaccine, not COVID.

I've registered as an unpaid carer with my GP as they had a form on the website, but my old dad goes to a different GP, though they did ask for his details.
I don't qualify for carers allowance due to occupational pension so I (before the pandemic) registered to get National Insurance credit and was told I do qualify for that at least. How it will get me into group 6 for a vaccine, I don't know. Time will tell. Otherwise I am in group 8

I am a carer for my Autistic son. I contacted my gp last year to be registered as a carer and they didn't really know what i was talking about (scotland)... They have put a note on my records but I don't think that would be enough to flag me up. I already recieve the flu jag because of my asthma but this isn't enough for me to recieve the covid vaccine. I do however recieve carers allowance and I'm registered with my local carers centre so hopefully this should be enough for me to be flagged up for vaccinating on phase 6.
I am however concerned that i read on several carers forums that the uk government has slipped through a change to the vaccination of carers and we are no longer in any priority group. I cannot find carers listed on the government vaccination priority lists now either, so who knows. Being in Scotland i don't know if we have been removed here but hopefully not as the scottish governnent were the first to prioritise carers. I think i might email my msp to clarify the situation. |

Oh there's just been a question about unpaid carers on todays briefing... They didn't really clarify 100% if we are still phase 6 but the Jcvi states carers should be phase 6 and they are gong with that. Clear as mud!

All of this has highlighted how little they really care about carers. There were a few good questions, each time answers avoided the issue and said someone else decided the order of priority. The guy who said carers should be given jab when they take their vulnerable person along was right but that would be far too sensible an idea!

I Missed part of the briefing as I was waiting on the CAMHS psychologist phoning back...we are really struggling here!
Vaccinated at the same time as vurnerable person wouldn't work here for me as children aren't getting Vaccinated but would work for lots! Carers are totally forgotten as usual... We are shattered, both mentally and physically and as a family we are totally broken! |
