Andy’s Flying Videos
I got a GoPro last week, and I tried it out yesterday evening.
It’s the first time I’ve done this, so apologies for the choppy transitions: |

Heh!
I (and every private pilot I know) instantly said "someone didn't do their preflight checks!" when I saw that cat-in-the-wing video |

I'm wondering if I should put little captions on next time.
Take off on runway 27 0:30-0:37 Liddington Castle Iron Age Fort on climb out 1:25-1:45 Between Avebury and Silbury Hill 4:05-4:25 Oldbury Castle, the Lansdowne Monument, and Cherhill White Horse 4:50-5:40 Hackpen White Horse 6:00-6:10 Barbury Castle Iron Age Fort 6:34-6:54 The Defence Academy 7:14-7:45 Faringdon Folly 8:09-8:24 Hot Air Balloons over Abingdon 8:40-9:05 (Over to the left. At quite a distance; I couldn't go closer to see them better because they appeared to be drifting over Abingdon airfield, which was restricted airspace by NOTAMs at that time) Segsbury Camp Hillfort 10:20-10:54 Uffington Castle and THE White Horse Hill 11:25-11:43 Coming in low for Runway 27 12:55-13:25 Down the slope and landing on 27 12:55-14:20 |

Here's a still from the bit when I'm turning from the base leg onto final to dive down the slope, past the trees, and onto the grass runway.

As I've been grounded for a while (due to the aircraft having problems with an ignition module - which is hopefully being rectified over the next week or two), I've gone back and edited the last video a lot more rigorously.
I mean, I was getting a bit bored during some of the longer bits when there wasn't much to see. I've edited it down to 7 minutes. I've also added explanations of what to see popping up as subtitles. It's all learning |

Cool. I would love to do that. I have to admit though I’d be slightly nervous.
If you are editing on an iPad I’d recommend LumaFusion which is really good (I still use it now and again even though I use Final Cut Pro).

Believe it or not, the only editing software I used was Photos on Windows 10. It allows you to create clips, stitch them together, add subtitles, title slides - the works.
I do admit that the bit I enjoy best is the low-level approach over the fields at the top of the ridge, the last-minute turn around the trees and descent down the slope for landing. The only downside was that it was straight into the setting sun, which was why I was moving my head from right to left a few times on the landing approach - I had to get a clear sight of the grass runway. |

Finally got another video.
It was a little bumpy low-level on Sunday, and I just found out that going into slow motion really accentuates this. So here's the final minute of approach and landing, slo-moed into 2 minutes, to make it look a bit more dramatic It does calm down the closer you get to the ground (as always; the ground interrupts the air's ability to circulate freely so hinders it considerably from making things too unpleasant) and is always far less bumpy with passengers (thanks to their excellent traits at being self-loading ballast to increase wing-loading and make the microlight harder for the air to throw about at any level) |
