Just realised both kids have them too. DS has one from Dunelm with an idea mattress on it. DD has one from a local bed factory style shop and has an Emma mattress on it. Both are full of old toys and books underneath.

I’d love the extra storage.
We've also got a very heavy super thick mattress on ours but hasn't been a problem. The bed itself is also very heavy and solidly made with gas struts to it lifts easily. It's definitely worth getting one that's decent quality. We had a cheap one for the spare bed which served its purpose well but it was much more flimsy. The frame that the mattress sat on was metal with slats and when down it rested on blocks attached to the inside of the bed frame and had a supporting leg in the middle so we wouldn't have wanted a big heavy mattress on that but our actual bed is more like a divan base that's split into two lengthways so the whole top of the base lifts and when down it rests on the entire solid base frame so much more supported and sturdy. The storage is a god send.

We have a wooden king size from Wayfair which is end opening. The hydraulics make it very easy to open and close and the storage underneath is amazing. We have an Ikea pocket sprung mattress. Very happy with both which we have had since we moved in March 2019.
