The issue with the luggage is that if you book it all on one ticket, the checked baggage allowance will apply to any domestic flights as well (regardless of time between flights).

If the domestic is booked separately, most US carriers (apart from Southwest, not sure about JetBlue, have never checked a bag with them) do not include checked baggage on fares for domestic flights, it has to be paid separately and may not be possible to do so until check in time, depending on the carrier.

It's worth checking both options - all the flights on one ticket via a multi-city itinerary, or an open jaw UK-NYC//MCO-UK, with the domestic flight booked separately (factoring in possible additional baggage costs).

Generally speaking in normal times, the prices for US domestic flights do increase the closer you get to travel date, but who knows anymore...

We are thinking of doing this in 2022 to celebrate my DH's 50th and our 20-year wedding anniversary. American Airlines fly MAN->JFK->MCO (different departure dates obviously) then MCO-MAN - can book this all in one go via Expedia. All indirect of course.
Edit: return is indirect so MCO-JFK-MAN

Start with JetBlue. I'm pretty sure they offer more NYC - MCO options than any other airline. And they are about the best priced too.

There’s no need to book a return. Just book your main flights into New York and back from Orlando.
I agree with Softy, Southwest were so easy to use and they have good flexible booking prices too just in case you need/want to change a flight later. I liked how there were no hidden charges around bags and their app is easy to use. We flew Philly to MCO so not exactly your route and everything was fine, no frills but drink and snack given on the journey and the crew were really helpful.

Just booked with BA. 2 nights in New York then on to Orlando. DS11 absolutely loves New York though he’s never been (unless you count being in my uterus as went when I was 11 weeks pregnant with him) and I really, really hope that I get to surprise him with this trip.🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I was looking this morning at prices for next summer, we're not going till 2022 though. We want to do 3 nights, 4 days NYC and 2 weeks in Florida. Flights with Delta, Newark to Orlando, was $320 for 4 adults, and checked baggage was $30 for one back per person, so another $120, $440 in total one way. Roughly £260? Which I didnt think was too bad, when I looked at adding NY to MCO to a BA booking, the price went up by £800, so it's defo worth looking around!
