As others have suggested please check with Norwegian you still have your return flights. May be do a live chat and save the chat, just in case they have cancelled it altogether with you not being on the outbound leg.

I am going to try and get clarification on this from esta again even if to just help others with it. I’ll come back with the info x

Happened to a friend last year who had a valid Esta but it got rescinded with no reason given and he couldn't board flight.
Had to go to the embassy a few weeks later and they ran a background check on him before giving a 10 yr visa.

If the OP had had the print out this situation might have been resolved sooner without making another application which invalidated the first esta.

This has been a gut wrenching read. So glad you have managed to get another Esta authorised and hope you got the credit card issue sorted and booked onto a new flights tomorrow.
What's done is done and you are all together and hopefully off on a fantastic trip tomorrow. If the credit card is sorted I think I would be doing it some damage at the hotel bar tonight. You are still on holiday after all. Happy travels tomorrow

From what she's been told, the application this morning didn't invalidate the esta - it was an uncompleted application in July that invalidated it as she had completed the application through to the payment screen then cancelled.
