It's my sons 17th birthday soon, I'm gutted we can't apply for his provisional licence and without that he can't drive. We would have been able to take him out straight away because he's had young driver lessons.

A few of his friends have had their 17th birthdays in lock down, after having their 16th during GCSE's. And next year their 18th birthdays will be during A'levels, the poor kids.
Why can’t you apply for his provisional, are the offices closed.

My daughter had her 17th at the end of April, her 16th was the day before her GCSE Spanish Speaking exam and I image her A levels will probably start somewhere near her 18th.

We have been taking her out driving around industrial estates, not sure we can let her on the real road yet.

My DD is 18 in a few weeks time. Not the celebration we thought so I may steal this idea. Need things to cheer her up she’s worried about her S level results and has missed out on prom, leaving school celebrations, her driving lessons/test and her job in a cafe. Wish I knew what else we could do to make it memorable.

You cannot currently apply for a new provisional licence because of coronavirus (COVID-19).

You can still apply if you’re classed as a critical worker - for example, a doctor, nurse or school teacher.

I'm hoping they will reopen in June, so not too long to wait, trouble is there will probably be a huge back log. He was really looking forward to driving on real roads.

Didn’t realise you couldn’t apply for new ones

Nope I looked for our DS who is 17. I didn't earlier in the year as we were due to go to Florida in April and I was worried we might not get his passport back in time.

On the plus side I did a practice theory test and got 48/50 and a pass

Weve got friends and family to make a messages video. Ds has asked for full cooked breakfast, board games day (no phones), cream tea and weve booked an online escape room as a surprise. That and some drinks should be ok.

It’s my husbands birthday tomorrow & our 42nd wedding anniversary. He says I only chose that date so he’d have no excuse for forgetting our anniversary.

That’s brilliant! I think I’ll get her to make a lockdown wish list!
