The zoo, walk the walls, or along the river. Upstairs at the grill- nice steakhouse if a bit pricey. Lots of shopping in a really nice town centre.(with town crier) Or Cheshire Oaks (Outlets) just outside Chester.

We only live a few miles from Chester but rarely go there.
For food you could try Hickorys smokehouse which is down by the river but you would probably need to book in advance as it gets very busy. It's always nice to walk along the city walls and the main attraction is of course Chester Zoo which is a nice day out. About a 12 mile drive in to North Wales is Flint Castle which is quite interesting, you can hear audio of some of the historic events that took place there and they've recently built a staircase in one of the towers with a viewing platform at the top. You're not far from Cheshire Oaks which is a shopping outlet if you fancy doing some shopping and again in North Wales there's Mold a small market town which has a market every Wednesday and Saturday. You could also for food visit Choccs Away Diner at Hawarden airport and if you're lucky you might see the Beluga take off or land. Sorry I haven't got much information about Chester itself but we just don't go there very often

Chester is a beautiful city and even a walk along the walls is nice.
If you have no outlet shops near you and like shopping, Cheshire Oaks is really good and huge with all the big names. Chester Zoo is a nice zoo.

We stayed right in the centre at a quirky hotel - Oddfellows, was fab. we enjoyed wandering the shops in the Rows, walking through the park next to the river, and there are some nice places to eat on the riverside - Hickory's Smokehouse and a lovely coffee shop at the rowing club. There are boats along the river, Roman ruins, cathedral. Zoo just outside the town and Cheshire Oaks outlet mall a few miles away.

We loved Chester - it was a wonderful experience. We stayed in a Premier Inn just on the outskirts and actually caught the bus into the centre from outside. We did a walking tour which we picked up from the Tourist office. It was so interesting - however might be a bit boring for kids. We ate in the smokehouse restaurant and the food was brilliant - totally go there. While we were there, and as it was school holidays, there were Roman centurions roaming about in certain places so the kids could engage with a bit of history as well.
