Mobile Recommend me a bike saddle

Since he has been diagnosed with diabetes I've been trying to get DH to exercise more. He came on a couple of walks with the dog and I but he hates walking.
On Friday he cleared out the garage and has uncovered and dusted off our bikes. He wants us to try taking up cycling again.
But I find it just so uncomfortable sitting on a bike. Can anybody recommend a saddle for ladies comfort?

I’m a cyclist, love it.

Does fairly depend on the type of bike you’ve got. If you’ve got a retro/town style one (like a Dutch or step through upright style) you can’t go wrong with a brooks leather saddle. Pricey yes, but they mould to your shape after a while!

If it’s a more sporty bike then my favourite saddle is a Charge Ladle.

I will stress this though, you must give it time! It will take a couple weeks to ‘break in’ any type of saddle so don’t give up on it if you have a bit of soreness and lack of comfort to start. But once you have broken it in you’ll be fine.

Don’t be tempted by anything wide or too padded, they may initially seem comfortable but on long rides I can only say one word - chafe!

Enjoy getting back into cycling xx

It's a mountain bike but more suitable for tracks/ trails and lanes than actual rough cycling ( just as well because I'm certainly not suited to anything rough). Think bumble along in the countryside sort of thing. Locally we have some "unfinished" cycle paths, old roads that have turned into walking/cycling paths and coastal paths so we would be on those with short stints on the road in between

Then I’d say the ladle. Or something similar. If you have a good local bike shop nearby, or even an Evans cycles, go in and have a chat about saddles and look at their range. They could also help you with making sure your ‘fit’ is correct - so many people have seats too low for eg. All helps with comfort.

It might seem ‘hard’ at first but I promise you will get used to it. Just remember any big bumps or particularly bumpy tracks lift off the saddle ever so slightly so your thighs absorb the bumps not your bum!
