Rise and Recline chair advice

I want to get a rise and recline chair for my mum but there seems to be so much choice out there. Does anybody have one, or bought one for a relative who could advise me of a good make and where to look.

Thanks

We have one for my mum - my dad got it on eBay - paid less than £500 for a nearly new one which had cost £4K 6 months earlier.

My mum had a leather one, managed to get it in the sale for about £750 think it was half price. It still looked brand new about 5 years later. It was not the most comfortable of chairs to sit on though for a long time so perhaps a fabric one would have been better for her.

My mum had two but we had to use a house clearance firm to get rid of them. New ones are far too expensive but charities wouldn’t take them. I would look in local adverts

Persuaded my 87yr old dad to get one about 6 months ago. He was reluctant until my partner saw him trying to get out chair and told him if he fell over out his chair he would crack open his head on the corner of the table in front of him and end up in hospital( she a nurse) he listened to her when he wouldn't to his children.
Anyway we took him to a local mobility shop and he tried 6 or so different ones with a bit of advise from the shop staff who were very helpful. There are different widths , lengths , styles so your mum needs to try a few to see what suits her.
My dad bought new so it was exactly the right one for him. Think it was around £1k or so. Not cheap but worth it to keep him mobile and most importantly safe.

They come in different sizes so check which you need.
If you get electric one also make sure it's got a spare battery incase of a power cut. My Mum got stuck in her chair with the foot rest up! 😔

Yeah, my dad's is electric and they fitted a small battery so it still worked. Was only a pp9 battery, so just enough to get out I imagine.

A good one lasts a long time. We paid a fortune for my Mums, measured for her, in the mid 1990s. When she died we gave it to my FIL, he was a similar size to my Mum and used it until he died. I thought we would get it back but my MIL thought she would use it and said it was the most comfortable chair ever. Eventually the motor died 3 years ago - so about 20 years - and it was impossible to replace so we went and bought her one from a disability specialist (it was a lot cheaper than my Mums). She had it about two years and on her death we sold it through EBay and actually recouped a good percentage of the cost, unlike the curved stairlift which we had to pay someone to take away.

I recommend Sherborne every time, bought a less than 6 month old, immaculate chair (with that new chair smell!) for £150 from eBay, Sherbourne price over £1k - lift is excellent, brings your legs straight, very comfy, no sag, then recline where/how suits you. Sherborne offer three sizes, petite, standard and large, ensure you check seat width. Parents bought a new Lynton apiece a few years ago, petite for her, standard for da, invauable as his health deteriorated. IMHO, if you want excellent quality buy Sherborne.

Recommend dual motor, lift and recline. Newer model controls are white, 5 button, if it only has 3 control buttons it isn't dual motor lift/recline meaning they don't operate independently. They also now include a very recent lumbar adjustment adding two additional buttons to the control.
