If you're able, also look at Miami ex LHR, usually more availability in UC.
I have 2 UC rewards to MCO in April this year which were pretty easy to get. However, for the school holidays, I have 4 UC rewards from LHR to MIA on 16 August, I only booked those a couple of weeks ago as I can't plan too far ahead for that time of year. It really is matter of being patient and checking most days for availability. Jill |

Anytime from the 330 day window opens really but once they start loading you need to be pretty quick to pick them up. I found the app was the easiest was to check throughout the day. You can also text and ask them to hold the reward seats if you are busy at the time they’re released.

If you really want to trade 155k miles for 800 quid I'm sure you could find many people on here who'd offer you the cash for the miles (obviously it's not allowed but I bet it doesn't stop people doing it in reality)
155k miles is worth about £4500 in San Francisco Upper Class redemption so the usage you have planned is a really poor return. That said they are your miles and if you want to use them this way go ahead it's entirely your choice at the and of the day, a saving is a saving after all |

Maybe look at what else you could use them for and when for a future trip.
I don’t use Virgin miles as it’s a carrier I avoid but I’ve always found paying for economy or premium economy and using miles to upgrade to the next cabin works out better value with most airlines. |

If you are not going until summer 2021 then I would suggest that with a good plan and some commitment, you have a strong chance of getting reward seats.
You should have enough for 2 or 3 PE return rewards by the time you come to book. This summer (2020) was more difficult to get reward seats than previous years probably due to TC demise. Some tips - book your outbound first in your chosen class and airport, then add the inbound when available. Be prepared to swap and change. There were big issues getting inbound this for summer 2020 and we were at one point flying out of MAN and into GLA. Then we swapped to GLA return (Upper Class) before settling on MAN return. Use Expert Flyer (or similar) to help spot reward flight release. We did have to pay some amendment fees but we placed flights on hold and tried to make the changes within 24 hours to avoid fees where necessary. End result we got 2 x ad, 1 x ya, 1x ch MAN MCO UC out, PE inbound for just over £2k in summer school hols. There are still inbound PE reward flights early Sept available now to MAN. |

Exactly this. I want my savings to be in 4 figures, not 3!
We’ve had 2 UC reward flights for 95,000 pp & 2 UC reward upgrades for 47,000 but they gifted us 20,000 after cancelling our flight as this isn’t as good value imo.

We booked our PE Man to MCO in August school hols quite quickly after release. Didn't manage to find a direct flight back but we got a reward flight back from New York so we've tagged 2 nights in New York at the end of the hols. Back 28th August. Schools back on the Wednesday.
