Hi I am new to all this.

If I book through Alamo brits link in this thread, does it include EVERY insurance I am likely to need? It is all so confusing, I have read elsewhere that you should get excess insurance.
I dont want to turn up to pick the car up and then get hassle saying I need something else!

Any help gratefully appreciated. Thanks

We have been quoted £400 for a intermediate SUV and full insurance (doesn't include extra driver or full tank of petrol) for our May 2015 holiday, that's was Alamo through Thomas Cook but I am hoping I'll get it cheaper booking direct so I can cancel it, have until Jan 2015 to find a better deal 😉

There isn't any excess - the CDW covers the full value of the car.

From Alamo's website:
"The following are the optional products offered at most Alamo Rent A Car branches:

Collision Damage Waiver — Covers the cost of damages to the rental car if the vehicle is involved in an accident.
Personal Accident Insurance — Covers medical and ambulance bills for the rental car driver and passengers.
Roadside Assistance — Protection for flat tires, keys locked in the car and other on-location services.
Supplemental Liability Protection — Covers the cost of damages to a third party.
Theft Protection — Covers personal items in the rental car."

CDW & SLI are included already. Your travel insurance should cover medical bills.

The car is covered for breakdowns anyway but if you're the sort of person who loses keys then the enhanced Roadside Assistance might be useful. Theft Protection - probably best not to leave anything in the car.

Try money supermarket for comparisons. £380 from a travel agent seems a good price to me, they usually charge an arm and a leg. As long as its fully inclusive/gold insurance your fine. Think you could maybe knock off around £50 going direct.

If you do book direct with alamo/brits you can amend your booking right up until the day before (I think) if the price was to drop. I amended mine and saved around £50.00.
How big an amendment can you make? Eg Can you change pick up location and/or duration?

Yes, I think you can even completely cancel and rebook without charge, I just amended the timings on mine and this resulted in a refund of about £50, think it's due to fluctuations in the exchange rate.
