Benalmadena is a lovely place. If you are not driving, the buses there take you so many places and you can buy a card so local journeys work out to about 50 cents.
To answer your question, I would pick Benidorm. Love it there and it’s not all sticky Vicky vibes if you avoid the strip. So many decent live bands for free to watch. Stayed in plenty on 3* hotels all over Spain that have been lovely.
Don’t think I would like to dress fancy every day/night and be on my best behaviour. I’m more a pub/ karaoke kind of girl.
I would love to experience first class travel though, would still wear my trackies for that.

As I said earlier, I like luxury as a treat but I’m more than happy with 3* if it means I can afford to go away more often.

I’d also add that I’ve stayed in a few 4* hotels that aren’t as clean or as friendly as a decent 3*. I think it’s important to read reviews and check it’s the right style of hotel for you. We’ve been to a few 4-5* hotels that are very large, crowded, noisy and that’s not what we enjoy. Some smaller 3* hotels don’t have as many facilities, such as a state of the art gym or a huge entertainment team neither of which we would use, but they have friendlier staff who are willing to help if you need anything and a dedicated cleaning team who make sure everything is clean which is far more of a priority for us.

Somewhere In the middle? I like a nice hotel (more Disneys contemporary than the New York plaza) I like a good lay in the sun and exploring, or a sightseeing park opposing break. A door man, and dressing up isn’t my style, but neither is brits abroad.

I think it was about £15 a night and it enabled us to afford the flights and tickets. We had a blast and I’d do it again if it was the only way to go (but not for four years )
If money was limited then obviously the choice comes down to staying at a cheap + naff hotel or not going at all. I remember one of our earlier Florida holidays when we stayed at a Best Western on I-Drive which wasn't that great but was cheap and in a good location and wasn't too terrible. Back then we couldn't afford to stay onsite or in a posher offsite hotel.

This thread though isn't about the cost. As the first post says "your decision on the question below shouldn’t be based on budget". We're supposed to assume we have infinite money and can afford anything when making this choice.

Thousands now fly out to Benidorm rather than go to Cheltenham for the festival... I mean £8.00 a pint of Guinness at the Races or £2.00 at the British Arms in Costa del Cheltenham with a weeks worth of sun. Hmmmm... tough choice?

On that basis, I’d choose 5* but not in Dubai. I’d also not choose Benidorm. Neither appeal for different reasons. Although I have no problem with a 3* hotel, if money isn’t the issue, I’d book the most luxurious hotel

I'm happy with a Caravan in Norfolk or 5* in Mexico and indeed over the Years have done many of both, indeed we have a 3* Aparthotel booked for August in Tenerife and a luxury 5* Villa in Lanzarote in September.

The thing that makes the difference for us are the Kids, if its family then the 3* in Tenerfife works as the kids love to get out and about. If its Adults only then we go for the Luxury as we are content to enjoy the finer things.

Sorry Bury Boy didnt really answer the question I know.
