Does anyone have a rough timeline of when things are supposed to happen and what time to do the various bits? That is, when to do the insurance, when to apply for the police certificate, when to apply for a visa appointment, when the visa appointment should be, etc.

DD said that there's some form (or something) that Disney sends out around 1.5 to 2 months before the start of the programme. And this is needed for their visa application. That sounds like the earliest they can do their visa application is around 1.5 months before they go. That doesn't sound like a lot of time to me - I'm used to people here on the DIBB saying you need to apply several months beforehand (this is for failed ESTAs though).

I am worried about this too, my daughter said at the interview they did hope to do this 2-3 months prior, but no guarantee. She has only accepted the offer, paid the fees and said she wants accommodation so far. Hopefully that is all that is needed at the moment and the rest will follow soon. But not sure.

Hi guys. My ds is nowhere near this but how does it work? I see they get paid but how does accommodation work? I assume you would pay for flights but what other costs are involved?

The YummyJobs webpage has a rough guide to the sort of costs involved plus some other info (YummyJobs is where the application for this is done):

https://www.yummyjobs.com/work/disne...xchangeprogram

Before they go they have to pay for all costs such as two trips down to London (once for the Disney interview and once for the visa interview), Disney programme fee (about $440), visa appointment fee (about $185), medical / travel insurance, flights, cost of hotels before and/or after the programme (they will need at least one night's accommodation before the programme starts), plus a few other fees such as a police certificate.

Whilst over there, the student gets paid by Disney and the cost of the accommodation (between $200 to $250 a week) comes out of their wage. They will then have to pay for food, transport and anything else they buy whilst over there.

Yes, you can't book an appointment for the visa until Disney send all the paperwork and that is not due to be sent until around 6 weeks before they go. I'm really concerned about this as appointments are difficult to get at the best of times. I have prepared DD and told her that she faces losing her money if she can't get a visa, which she says she understands.

My DD has also booked her flight on deposit only as she has found somebody to fly out with. Problem is balance is due early April and visa won't have been sorted by then. It's so annoying that things can't be sorted sooner. I'm a planner (have to be for Disney hols ) and I hate leaving things until the last minute.

It does seem a bit... tight. Not helped by the fact that half of that time will be around exam period.

Also noting on the US Embassy webpage that it says "If a visa application is approved during a visa interview, the average processing time is 5-7 working days. At least a further 2-3 workdays should be allowed for delivery". So it can take up to 2 weeks after the interview before the visa is received.

My son has gotten a place this year. We booked his flight today - choosing a fully flexible fare with Virgin in case of any visa problems.

If it’s any reassurance, my daughter did Camp America last year and the visa application went very smoothly (about 6/7 weeks before she went). Although we are only a short distance from central London so it was easy to go back and forth. She had to collect her passport ((with her US visa in it) about a week after her embassy interview from a post office in Holborn.

Yummy jobs send 100s of students each year. I feel sure they will have the timings correct

Looking back at my emails my eldest went for her visa in April and I think she flew out in June. That was for camp but the timing will be the same.
