I just don't feel much interest in visiting Japan, but my father was a Japanese POW, which left him with a deep antipathy towards Japan, which I can understand, given the dreadful things he suffered. If I'd wanted to visit, I wouldn't have visited while he was alive, out of respect for that.

I suppose that someone whose relatives had been in a concentration camp in Germany may not wish to visit Germany, but might be ok with Japan.

It is notable however that the attitudes and accepting culpability for their historic actions are quite different between the two countries.

it mostly seems to be muslim contries that people are listing. what specifically do you all disagree with?

right now, the only places i'm not visiting are the US because of the orange manbaby and everything surrounding it. i'll look at reconsidering next year, but right now, i can't see that decision changing anytime soon.
The reason many people are listing Muslim countries are the horrific way they treat women, minorities, disabled people and use of modern slavery to list but a few.

Before you say these things happen in other countries, I will agree some places do have these issues but not as in Muslim countries. Im thinking of places like Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Qatar etc…

These countries (and other Muslim countries) have often been flagged by organisations such as Amnesty International as having horrendous human rights violations. Just a quick Google in to any of these countries will list a slew of awful laws still actively pursued.

But hey, each to their own…

You must be new to the internet It's impossible to police what other people put as a response (unless you are a moderator of the forum!)

I have no interest in going East, would like to see Istanbul but that is as far East as I would go, going forward will probably stick to Europe, mountains and snow in the winter, sun with lakes and beaches for the summer.

The problem is the original question asks for a negative response and then not expect to have some sort of explanation given. This is an impossible task in my view. People want to talk about their reasons/decisions. Then people ask questions like “can you clarify your reasons” so that leads on to more information being passed on.

I really really don’t want to travel to Egypt…. Aren’t you dying to know why

We are looking to book a Cairo trip and Cruise and have no concerns whatsoever about safety. My only concern is food and getting food poisioning.
I have never been to Cairo but have been to Sharm and Hurghada and the people in the hotels are the nicest kindness people you could meet they are all trying so hard to keep the tourism visiting. We have been several times and always feel very safe however sometimes they bother you a little in the towns but a swift NO thanks you are left.
Hope you get there sometime and enjoy it.

Than, you for your comment, I'm sure you can note I joined this forum in 2010 about six years before you. If that makes me new you are newer

I am simply trying to keep what I think is an interesting thread from becoming political and being shut down.

I can actually work out why people won't go, but my main interest is where they won't go.

TBH, this thread won't be useful to others because it's mainly about people's opinions on where they wouldn't want to visit. Unless these are places where people can't visit, then it really comes down to personal choice. Which will be different for everyone.

I suspect people are listing many of the countries that are on the UK's Foreign Office's "do not visit" list:

https://www.independent.co.uk/travel...-b2691935.html

I suppose it's interesting to know why people choose to avoid countries not listed in the above link (like France!). Interesting, but I'm not sure it's "useful"?
