Coccyx pain

So I fractured my coccyx when I was a teen, many years on ,I’m still really struggling with pain.To sit on a hard surface is a no no ,and despite a round cushion I’m still really struggling to sit for any length of time throughout the day. Walking no problems ,but some nights the only relief I get is to lie down ….im desperate to be pain free but no clue what anyone could do ?

My daughter had similar, didn't know she'd fractured hers until after a MRI showed it.

Had physio to target certain muscles. She's not complained of pain for a while (couple of years) so think it helped

You can get specific cushions with a coccyx cut out too. DD found these better than the round ones with the hole in the middle.

We have many people in work with a specialist chair with coccyx cut outs too.

Have a look at a coccyx wedge cushion, it was a life saver when I cracked mine. I think it took me a good year before I was pain free.

I have had excruciating coccyx pain for 12 months. I have the cushions for coccyx pain and been doing the physio exercises plus core strengthening and stretches which are recommended but I have no relief. I can only sit forward or on my side, its so debilitating. I was referred to a pain specialist who did an MRI scan and there is a few issues and he has recommended an epidural injection, in fact the hospital rang this morning with a date (31st March) so I won’t know until after that if it eases the pain or not so unfortunately I have no advice for you as I tried everything thats generally recommended and nothing worked for me 🙈

I had coccyx pain for years after damaging it during child birth.

I was recommended trying a chiropractor and after just 4 visits I've been pain free for over 10 years now.

The damage I did might not have been as bad as a fracture but it might be worth giving it a go. I really feel for you as I know how miserable the pain made me feel.

I’m very similar - broke my coccyx on an exercise bike about 25 years ago. I’m lucky that these days I no longer work in an office, so I don’t spend too long sat on hard chairs. Although I have now got other back problems, that my chiropractor believes is from years of sitting sideways to avoid sitting on my coccyx area when I’m at home on the sofa etc.

So whilst I manage it - I haven’t ridden a bike again in all of that time, and I choose soft padded seats in restaurants rather than hard benches if I can avoid it. The best I can do (now that I’m in my 50s) is have regular chiropractor appointments to take care of the rest of my back - as when that started to spasm it literally was a huge and could of been life changing problem, and I’m quite sure that’s all been because of the coccyx being broken.

How do you cope on a Florida flight ? I went to Greece last September which is obviously a much shorter flight and I was in such pain with my hip/ back that it ruined the few days I had away and then had to endure it on way back.
I am desperately hoping that I have some progress from my hospital appointment as I go to Turkey in June and all I am worried about is feeling the same as last year.

My daughter was referred to a pain consultant for her coccyx pain after childbirth. Initially he prescribed a mild tranquilliser but this takes time to bed in and she found that she couldn’t get up to see to her baby and she asked to stop. He then developed a program of vitamin supplements (some in massive doses), kefir, kombucha and kimchi. I am pleased to say that after about 18 months she is experiencing some real improvement and she has been discharged and advised to continue with a slightly reduced dose of vitamins for life. When we went to Florida in 2023, she took cushions but spent a lot of time standing up. Now she’s confident that on our upcoming holiday to Lanzarote she will be able to sit for the flight.

DD would have her cushion on all flights. There is no way she would have been able to down otherwise.

Do you have a coccyx cut out cushion?
