Problem is what if the level of service is poor. It’s then up to you to raise the problem and get the charge removed. I hate it even more when they word it that “it’s been added for your convenience.”

Believe me I would have no problem speaking up and having it removed if there service was not up to 20% - I agree patrons need to me more assertive

So are they saying they will add the tip on automatically onto the bill for 20% regardless of the service?

So they take a service charge, then you don’t tip or are you supposed to tip as well? Usually in the uk if there’s a service charge we don’t tip. Love Ford Garage the one in Cape Coral was amazing.

This is how I understand it;

The 20% server charge goes either pooled across all staff OR goes to the business and allows them to pay a decent hourly rate vs the terrible rate and servers relying on tips.

It’s automatically added.

If you aren’t happy with it due to poor service, you can (probably) ask it to be removed/reduced but then again, maybe not.

The sales commission doesn’t make much sense but again, I think this leads me to think they maybe get a small % of everything they sell OR like a set $ amount per table perhaps.

If you want to hand over more that 20%, anything you tip goes straight to the server.

It’s not worded well and very vague.

We will be going as a group of 7 and I think most places auto add the service charge on tables of 6+. I’m okay with it at a sensible % level and if service is good. Won’t hesitate to ask it to be removed and tip in cash a different amount.

I just don’t feel it is right, it’s like they are saying the 20% is so they can pay minimum wages throughout the restaurant and if you want to tip for good service so your server gets it direct it will be extra 🤔

Just dug my receipt out (really should get round to clearing out the travel wallet 😂 )

It’s only the card receipt but shows at the bottom the usual tip %’s ‘For your convenience’

So this must be new since our visit 30th May.

Unless it’s location specific. This was at Miromar over in Estero.

I did this at a restaurant we went to in Leeds. We waited an hour for our food and when it finally arrived (after having to query where it was), it was cold. I made them remove the 10% service charge that they’d added.

I wonder if the receipts have on, especially good for foreign visitors, recommended tip amounts also, and a nice smiley face and name handwritten?
It didn’t in March. Experienced extremely good service from everyone we encountered.

Nope we were at the one mentioned in March this year - it’s new since then.
