Who Knows About Volt Optimisers ?

Anyone know about volt optimisers - and are they worth installing ?
I'd never heard of them until today -but one wonders why they are not being promoted as energy saving devices IF they are as effective as they claim ?

Spoke recently to a spark who now works with us.
He said you can work any uk appliance off 220v which I knew and you can add legally a transformer. Thus reducing your bills.
Is this the same thing you are mentioning.

Yes I think so - it seems odd that these are not being targeted as another easy way that we can all save energy ...so wondered if there was some kind of catch ?
