Pixie dust request please for the unluckiest kid! And now they've lost his luggage!

DS's friend seems to be the unluckiest kid I know! He was a late application onto the same program that DS is on to lifeguard at the Universal hotels this summer.

He should have flown out with DS on 4th June, but has encountered a few hurdles along the way.
  1. Visa delay - after being told by the embassy that he didn't need a face to face appointment, and just to send his documents, they contacted him 2 weeks later to say that his passport was ready but the uni halls had refused delivery.
The next day he got the train into central London, collected his his passport to find there was an accompanying note saying that he needed to make a face to face appointment! - this was 4 days before they were due to fly out. After keeping an eye on cancellations, he managed to get an appointment for the following Tuesday, 3 days after the original flight date - phew.
  2. Flight price increases - The boys had already paid £701(!) for their BA economy return flights (Virgin were more), so he had his voucher for that value, as soon as his visa was approved, we logged on to rebook his flight and the prices had jumped up significantly, some days being over £1000

A good friend of mine at BA saved the day there with her friends discount for us and we managed to get him a flight yesterday for just £22 more than he'd originally paid. - Phew, again.
  3. flight delay - cancellation - So yesterday I made the mistake of breathing my first sigh of relief knowing he was at Heathrow and checked in. Then comes a 5 hour delay which is quickly pushed back to 6 hours, ultimately ending up with the flight being cancelled around 8pm last night.
We're led to believe the cause was a technical problem, then no-one ordering catering and ultimately the crew running out of hours.

BA put him up in The Hilton last night (which it sounds like he's very much enjoyed) and booked him onto today's flight of the same number and time.

So please send all your famous Dibb pixie dust for his flight taking off on time today with no more hiccups for the poor lad! I do keep telling him it'll be worth it when he gets there, he's been so positive and pro active through every set back, but I did detect a hint of getting a little fed up last night.

Thank you kind dibbers

Good luck to anyone else who may have been caught by this cancellation either going or coming home last night from MCO (also cancelled) as well.

***ETA, so he arrived last night - Hooray! but his luggage didn't, apparently it wasn't put on the plane and will be being sent on Saturday, which leads me to think it may have been sent somewhere else.

Oh dear what a tale of woe - hope all goes well for him today and everyone else stuck in London and Orlando.

Don't forget that he may be able to claim compensation for the delay - there's a form on ba.com here

britishairways/en-gb...s/compensation

this would be in addition to the fact that BA provided a hotel etc for him

Thank you, we've let him know, that will make up for any further lost wages if his induction is delayed because of this.

Thank you He's finally in the air on his way, delayed an hour, almost 2 hours by the time it actually took off, but he's finally on his way, what a relief!
