Train from Victoria to Gatwick this Saturday

We are travelling to Gatwick from Manchester via Euston. I am changing my plans last minute and have decided to get the train from Victoria to Gatwick. I cant be bothered carting luggage underground or walking to St Pancras so we will get a cab to Victoria from Euston.

We arrive at Euston at 13.03. I am trying to decide what time train to book on at Victoria. How long would you suggest it will take to depart the train at Euston and take a cab to Victoria on Saturday?

Do I even need to book in advance? Or can I just buy a ticket at Victoria? Is that easy to do? I am so naïve when it comes to train travel. I think they leave quite frequently. TIA

First check the Gatwick express is running - there is often engineering work at weekends.

If it is then no need to book at all - not sure you can reserve a seat anyway these days on that line. It’s very frequent and won’t be too busy

Taxi would take Around 20 mins traffic, road closures etc depending and what may be happening in Town

Thankyou very much. OK so I just find a booth or machine and get my ticket there?

I am really intimidated by train travel. Drop me at any airport in the world and I am absolutely fine. In a train station I feel like its my first day at Big School. And I am 45.

Lots of different ways to get tickets and yes you can use a machine on concourse or via the app which gets a discount (details here) or just use your contactless bank/credit card at the gate (easiest )

To be honest it will take you as long to walk to St Pancras as to go over to the taxi rank and wait for a taxi! St Pancras really is just a 10 minute walk up a straight road. Much easier IMO.

it is a very easy walk to st pancras and is you have wheeled cases not really a problem . it is just 500m down the euston road. to put in context its about the same distance as from the ferry drop off at magic kingdom to the castle.
