Mobile Assateague Island

Has anyone been?
Thinking of adding a 1 night stay when we go to Washington DC next year, would love to see the wild horses.
Have seen some nice hotels in Chincoteague VA, is this the best area to stay for the island or somewhere on the Maryland side? I understand you can’t go from Virginia’s side to Maryland’s without leaving the island itself

We have visited Assateague a couple of times the last being June of this year. It is worth viewing the horses both from the island and on a boat trip. If you stay on Chincoteague you can drive or walk across. It is part of the national parks of America and you can either pay for a day pass or an annual national parks pass which is for ALL national parks for 1 year. Chincoteague is not very large but is very laid back and relaxing with some good places to stay and eat. We stay at a B and B called Channel Bass Inn. The owners David and Barbara are a wonderful couple who have become friends , and Barbara is original from Leeds via a previous role in the British Embassy. If you want anymore info please feel free to pm me.

This is great info thank you! We’ll be going end of November so I’m guessing it will be freezing. Does the island close in the winter months?

Previous visits we always enjoyed the flounder at Bills Seafood Restaurant although this time it was not so good. The Village is a good setting and we found it excellent, The ropewalk was a good setting and good which we enjoyed but more of a lunch type of place. The Island Creamery is a brilliant ice cream venue excellent quality large portion# and every flavour you could want.
channelbassinn.com is the link to the B and B if you contact them and decide to stay mention you got the contact from Brian and Rose from Devon. It will guarantee a really warm welcome
