If she has yet to arrive, perhaps set up the meeting in the garden citing Covid-19/her upcoming operation.

You could let your husband and mother do most of the talking and if it goes okay, great. If it doesn't work out well, you have a few options; tell her to leave, which I appreciate might be difficult for you to do, so maybe get your husband to do it or just say you are going out.

It is a horrible situation for you to be put in, please just remember you are a wonderful person and a wonderful mummy.❤

She is due at 4. I will be telling her to leave at 5.

I’d hate to be put in that position in my own home and I’d be very disappointed in my husband if he did that, however well intentioned. I’d expect my husband to discuss it with me first and take on board my feelings.

I’d be asking for it to be postponed for now until you have had time to work out what you want to do.

Oh I’m so sorry 😢 the only good thing is if you’re all in the garden, if you can’t face telling her to go then actually you could get up and say you need the bathroom and say something like ‘ I’m needing to go inside now for a while and I expect you’ll be gone by the time I get back so nice to see you’. Hopefully a gentler approach so you won’t have to Chuck her out 👍
