Aww I was the same last year. I just wanted dd to be happy and be able to move on to 6th form. She needed 6 in the subjects she wanted to carry on and pass her English and maths.
At the end of the day, they are only a stepping stone to the next level, once the next level is achieved they dont really matter!
Dd passed everything and overachieved in some subjects but was slightly disappointed in others. Her maths would have been very dependent on how the exam went as she lacks confidence rather than ability, anyway she came out with a 6! Her drama was a 7 and she had been hoping for an 8!
It frustrates me in a way that 8 and 9 have become the desired grades when at the end of the day 6/7 is an A grade!
Good luck to everyone waiting, I think I was more nervous than dd!

I will be pleased if she gets a 4 in maths and English. We had major issues with ASD driving poor attendance and mental health problems. Therefore we just want to avoid retakes.
I’m optimistic she’ll get 4 and over, hopefully a few 5 and 6 in the bunch but I’m just pleased she has finished !

His support teacher cried when he left and said he is the best student she’s ever had and his English teacher was choked up too. All he wants is a 4 in English. Nothing else matters to him, just that 4. He doesn’t “need” it for his college course but for him it will be his biggest ever academic achievement if he gets it and I will cry my eyes out with happiness if he does it. He was predicted a 2 (Lit) and 3 (Lang) and his mock grades that they will be using as part of his result were 1 & 3 respectively. He has put EVERYTHING into trying to get this 4. His Maths will be a 4 unless something crazy happens so he hasn’t worried about that.

It’s funny, you see all these people talking about 8s and 9s, it’s always been that way and I have a very intelligent child that achieved those (As and A* back then) but when my ‘school refusing’ ASD son who was predicted ALL ‘U’ and 1s passed Maths, both English and Science all with 4s I was the most ecstatic I have ever been and cried like a baby! He did it by revising at home (wasn’t allowed in school by then) for about 2 weeks with a friend over FaceTime and he did it to prove he could - always one to do the opposite of what people want/expect.

Anyway, I’ve gone off on a tangent oops! As a parent of multiple children of varying academic abilities I really couldn’t care less what the numbers on the page are as long as THEY are happy with them. So to answer your question, (even though you didn’t mention anything under a 4), I will be happy with anything above a 1 and secretly disappointed in any U.
Well done to your son. He should be so proud of himself.

To be honest as long as my daughter passes and gets the grades she needs to go to sixth form college, we will be more than happy. After the pathetic past year they have had at school, it’s not fair to expect too much of them. These kids have lost out on so much thanks to the idiotic government

I would hope that DS would get a range between 5-8 but as long as he passes them all I will be happy. He want to go onto to sixth form so just needs the required grades for that. He has worked so hard in both lockdowns so hope he achieves what he is expecting. Good luck to all, it’s been a stressful 2 years for them.

Like others have said it has been a strange difficult year for them. My son has struggled so much with his mental health, self harming, suicidal thoughts etc. He puts so much pressure on himself. I am honestly not expecting him to pass anything other than P.E. That is fine with me, there is so much more to consider than exam grades.
I know it will be a bad day on exam result day, because whatever he gets, he will be angry he didn't do better and that will lead him to a dark place. I would be much happier to have his mental health in a good place than any grades. He can always get these another time.
