Event cancelled - can I get a refund?
Hi all,
I know there are some extremely knowledgable folk on here, so hoping someone can help (if possible!). I had booked to go to an event on 10th July which has now been cancelled due to changes in restriction dates. The organisers have moved the event to 24th July which I can not attend and I have therefore asked for a refund. The retailer has offered a voucher for any future event but isn’t really what I want. I said to the retailer I believe that I am entitled to a refund under Part 2 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 but they have refused. I have disputed the transaction with my bank but they have come back and said that there is no recourse with the retailer. Is this correct? I paid by debit card if that makes any difference. Thanks for any advice!

I suppose it depends what type of event and the booking t&c’s
I had a friend in similar position last year with big event - they just refused despite consumer credit act. Lots of people made complaints but they didn’t concede They just kept the money on account |

I am in the same boat - but not getting any response at all from the ticket provider.
I've just written and told them I will be initiating a chargeback as I paid on Amex. Hopefully this will spark some action as they were expensive tickets - and the date hs been moved twice now. I can't make the second new date. |

I believe they do not have to offer a refund if they offer you a voucher if the voucher not got your name on you could expect it and then resell but I think this depends on the company

It’s frustrating because their t&cs say credit only but I don’t believe the legislation supports them as they’ve frustrated the contract. I think I’m more annoyed at my bank than the retailer for refusing my dispute claim as they should know the law!
I can accept a voucher (it’s valid indefinitely) but this event was for a ‘hen do’ so just makes things a bit more tricky.

Can you appeal your banks decision?
We had this with a 5k run event we had booked for the end of 2020, it originally was changed to February '21 which we accepted, then to October while we're due to be away (fingers crossed). The company would not budge on offering discounts, and were trying to charge more to change the date if you couldn't make October, I claimed back through Amex, there was no hassle, money back within days.

There’s nothing on the banks email about appealing the decision, just advising to contact Trading Standards or CAB. I would like to just speak to someone at the bank to find out why but I can imagine that won’t be possible!

Quick update. I contacted the ticket seller again this morning stating I would start a chargeback if they do not refund.
I have just received a confirmation email that they have processed a full refund immediately. This was for James Blunt at the BIC in Bournemouth - rescheduled from May to July and then again to later in July. |
