Any recommendations
Is it better to get more expensive ones 🤷🏼 |

Not in my experience, we've had cheap ones, mid range and expensive, they all seem to last between 1-2 years regardless.
We stick to the mid range now, if lucky we'll get a couple of years out of them, I guess being exposed to the elements puts them at risk. We have fence post uplighters and fairly lights on wires inside a gazebo, they were all replaced at the beginning of last year and lasting well so far.

You can extend their life by exchanging the rechargeable batteries when they are worn out. Better to choose those using AA or AAA.

We buy cheap and replace. They don’t last whatever i do. Brought in for Winter, they still die after two years. We have fairy lights brought out for BBQ’s wired and last for years.

What do you want the lights for?
We have several in the front and back garden with motion sensors that are very bright, they're screwed into the shed, fence or wall and a couple of them are planted into the garden on stakes. They are came from Amazon and weren't very expensive. We have some strings of fairly dim lights around the garden on top of the fence panels and around the pond. They were from Tesco and cost around a fiver per roll (they look like wire with bumps on). Then there's the string of decorative white lights over and around the grilling pavillion where the bbq lives. These were cheapies from Asda, not much light but they're usually still on at 3.30am when I get up for work. Finally there's two strings of lights inside the gazebo that look like light bulbs. There's three brightness settings on the solar panel and we have ours on the middle setting which provides enough light to sit outside and see what you might be eating or drinking. These also came from Amazon and were around £40. It really does depend on what you want them for though, to light up an area or just for decoration. |

We've used here for wall lights thesolarcentre/cat...ights-7-1.html
They often have sales on which is when we've bought. Would recommend them.

Could you install some mains ones? We've got some gorgeous mains lights ready to go up over our gazebo when it is built.
I must admit I winced at the throwaway nature of this post. At least a mains wired one wouldn't need throwing into landfill and repurchasing every 2 years. It would cost a bit more to install upfront but would probably pay for itself in the end.

I've been trying to pretty the garden up a bit for family and friends being able to visit, not easy with a lurcher who likes to carve up the edge of garden, we've re built a border and filled with bark and solar lights these
Excuse the washing but it's a perfect wash day here lol, anyway these were 4 in a pack from wilko for a tenner I think, it's not summer yet but so far the sun we get lights them up nice in an evening and they are still shining bright when we go to bed, I put two packs in border and then we have planters on kitchen extension and I've put one in each of those I ordered the stars from dunelm they are solar powered three of them on a cable and then solar charger they look nice lit up too but they will be moved when I pit up a big planter cos they will go in there, just trying em out at minute I have just re stained garden fence and I have wound battery fairy lights around those they look nice and the batteries last a good while they are on a timer for 6 hours per evening |
