New Boston Lobster Feast in Golden Corral near Formosa site
The Golden Corral on 192 West Kissimmee near Formosa closed permanently last year and a Boston Lobster Feast is going in in its place.

And the old Shoneys nearby is finally being converted to "Stuckey's Garage". It looks similar to Ford's Garage. I suspect the all you can eat model at the budget end just isn't profitable enough. There are still numerous places doing large breakfasts at similar prices to Golden Corral just not all you can eat. Personally I can barely finish a meal at Denny's etc so never got added value at GC anyway. I much preferred cooked to order food.
For lunch and dinner there seems to be a shift to fast casual places with more specialized menus like Chipotle and Pei Wei. Their profit margins must be much higher than CG as they have less waste and serve alot of take out with lower staff and space requirements.

While following this and the other thread on GC which mentioned Perkins, I see in a similar vein that the Sizzler on the 192 by the Westgate Towers Resort appears to have close permanently.
When we first went in the early 90s places like the Sizzler and Pomderosa were staples for feeding our 7 year old!

That Sizzlers was a regular breakfast and dinner location for us back in the 90s. A chunk of raw kale on your dinner plate with every meal. Before the days of constant news on your mobile we used to read the Daily Mail while we waited in the breakfast queue. They used to print the DM in Orlando I recall - maybe they still do? Mick

Glad at least something is opening but personally we prefer Bone Fish or Red Lobster
But Harry’s Plaice, Harbourside and Cherry Pocket beat them both hands down for fish / seafood |
