Pasty/Bridie
Can any kind Dibber fix this for us? 🤞
Is a pasty and Bridie the same thing or different things? 🤷 Also is there a fish called a Bridie? 🤷 Thanks Dibbers, hope you have all had a lovely day 😊 |

I don’t think they are the same thing. I see a pasty as a Cornish Pasty. I would expect it to have some beef, potato and veggies in it I think. And more of a shortcrust pastry.
A bridie is ( from faint childhood memories) a Forfar Bridie and I would see it as more puff/ flaky pastry and just some sort of meat and maybe veggie filling. I am in no way whatsoever an expert, I don’t really eat them, just all from memories. |

A bridie doesn't have potato in it, a pasty does. A Forfar bridie is also made with shortcrust, not flaky, pastry, but bridies made in other parts of Scotland may be flaky pastry.
I used to have a job where I visited offices in Angus, one of them being in Forfar, and lunch on those days was always from one of the bridie shops . Edited at 08:30 PM. |

Never heard of a bridie but a pasty where I’m from is a pastry pocket with some kind of filling - cheese and onion/beef/potato etc.

We live in Forfar and they are definitely two different things - shortcrust pastry with meat filling, you can also get a flaky pastry version and also with or without onions - both famous bakers shops are very nearby so a regular purchase here 😊

A true (Cornish) pasty is beef, potato, turnip and onion in shortcrust pastry.
