Some are automatic release when you intend to drive off. Of course this only happens when engine running and in gear. Car wont automatically move if you shove with engine off lol

My current car (and my previous one) both have auto off on the handbrake, while my wife’s car it is manual. Needless to say almost every time I drive her car I get a series of bleeps warning me that the handbrake is on.

DW has a manual Golf with automatic handbrake and I have automatic BMW with manual handbrake, jump in and out of them both without any problems.

The one on our volvo just failed, the most expensive plastic ever! Lol!

The parking brake mechanism itself was fine, the brake calipers were fine, what failed where the little plastic holder type circle bits that the screws go in to to hold the parking break and calipers together!

So instead of just replacing those wee bits, we had to replace the whole calipers and parking brake... on both sides!

We have an audi a4 Sline. It is manual with electric handbreak. You can automatically pull away on a hill with the handbrake on. It automatically releases when you lift the clutch. I was the same and petrified of it but hubby showed me how to do it and now find hand breaks strangewhen I drive the ford ranger lol

Electronic parking brakes are a modern trend and unfortunately are prone to failure with VW Audi Seat and BMW and Mercedes... seeing a pattern yet?
Even with maintenance they are temperamental and once locked on are a disaster if they decide to fail.
Choose very carefully if you get one. The bills can be very large outside of warranty!
