Delta Baggage Allowance

Ok, I'm not the brightest spark but I'm getting a bit confused with reading Delta's luggage allowance page.

Hand luggage - can I take a small suitcase (overnight type as long as within dimensions) PLUS my handbag? DH can take a laptop PLUS a rucksack?

Checked luggage - we can each (including kids) take 2 or 3 x 23kg suitcases (not that we need that many as don't shop much)?

We are flying with delta this year, as my understandings are. each passenger is allowed 1 piece of carry on luggage PLUS a personal item, this could be a laptop, handbag etc etc.

As for checked luggage, its 1 case per passenger at 23kg as far as I am aware.

It was the same rules as when I flew with US Airways last year.

We're back now and the carry on luggage has no weight restriction just as long as it is the right size. I ended up taking one of those small suitcases that is classed as cabin luggage and my handbag (which was quite large with all our paperwork etc in) and had no problem. Going out it was heavier than coming home.

Oh really thats great! Im planning on taking two small hand luggage cases then my handbag for paperwork etc

I take it you mean that you will both be taking a small hand luggage case and you will also be taking a handbag. The cases had to go in the overhead bins and other luggage had to go under the seat in front of us as the Americans are used to travelling like that and just about everybody had a case with them so the overhead lockers filled very quickly.

These are the policies regarding hand luggage on Delta Air Lines, which from reading I take to mean one hand luggage case/backpack and one handbag or laptop bag:

Approved Personal Carry-on Items

1 purse, briefcase, camera bag, or diaper bag;
or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked and must be carried on);
or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above.

Additional Approved Carry-on Items

You may also carry on the following items, which do not count as personal items:

A jacket or umbrella.
Food or drink purchased after clearing the security checkpoint.
Duty free merchandise.
Special items like strollers, child restraint seats, or assistive devices such as wheelchairs or crutches.

Carry-on Baggage Size Restrictions

When oversized bags do not fit in the overhead bins, delays occur. Fees will be applied to the oversized bag if it has to be checked at the gate. To avoid delays as well as fees, follow these size requirements:

Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 115 cm) in combined length, width, and height.
Baggage must fit easily in the Carry-on Baggage Check, which is located near the check-in counters and at the gate and is approximately 22" x 14" x 9" (or 56 x 36 x 23 cm).
