Now that VH are using Hertz for their Fly-Drives, would anyone like to post their experiences?

I've always had a seamless experience in the past using Alamo, so am dreading April when I have a fly-drive booked.

I used Hertz a few times in both 2022 and also in 2023. No problems at all with them albeit twice I had cars that they had bought on the resale market as I found the invoices for the private sale in the glove box!

I find them a good company so you certainly shouldn't be dreading it. Now if you said Fox etc then yes I would agree with you.

We’ve just booked a fly drive with virgin and noticed it’s Hertz not Alamo…nervous as not a fan of change!

We have a scooter with us and always book intermediate SUV….hope the car sizes are the same. Slightly worried re not picking your own from a row as we usually pick a big boot.

You can ask to change your car, though, its not an issue. So if it doesn't work size wise ask them for the biggest in the category.

Hi Tom,

Hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread. 14/15 times used Alamo... only other time was USA Rent-A-Car back in... 2007? Anyway... We have booked with Virgin, and noticed the change to Hertz. Do they offer the same "Skip the counter" service that Alamo offered? So we can pick the car and head straight to the exit rather than needing to wait at a desk like the old days?

No they don't. However use Hertz for the first time and thereafter you can straight to the garage etc. However nobody has the same system that Alamo has.

But I would say the Hertz fleet is better.

I had my first Hertz rental in November. I made a gold rewards account and I was able to check in online. They took my payment an hour before collection and gave me my vehicle details and location. I didn't have to go to the desk.

Does that still work if it's booked through Virgin?

I'll post my experience when I fly out to Tampa and collect the Tesla Model Y I have booked with my Fly Drive at the end of this month

I don't believe so as I also have a fly drive for the 28th of this month and Hertz won't accept any of the Virgin reference numbers I have/have been given.
