Help my gammon isn't what I was expecting!
Morning all so just for reference I'm a vegetarian along with my eldest son but the rest of the family are meat eaters. They decided they didn't want turkey for Xmas day this year and would prefer gammon. Although I don't eat meat I don't mind cooking it and had been reading the thread on here so had decided I would boil it in coke and glaze with honey and mustard and finish in the oven. Anyway ordered a joint from Morrisons which came last night with my online shop but it has no fat on it! Maybe a very very thin layer but definitely nothing I could cut off after boiling- can I still boil and glaze it or will it be ruined? So stressed as I don't eat it but obviously want others to enjoy it 🙄

I'm no help with regards to the Gammon I'm afraid as I've never bought or cooked it in my life.
I'm a veggie too, whilst the rest of my family are meat eaters. I'm having to cook them a Turkey crown for Christmas dinner. |

It will be fine. I always buy it like that and boil in full fat cheap coke (Sainsbury's own version). Then glaze it with honey and soy sauce and put it in the oven for 30 mins. Comes out perfect. Don't forget to rest it for 30 mins before carving it.

I use the slow cooker having taken the fat off. Cook it in diet cola and seasonings. Doing mine at the weekend.

I prefer my gammon with little to no fat on top as you get more flavour on the meat and no one really eats the fat it just looks fancy if you score it in pretty patterns plus if you slice before serving no one’s going to see it
Depending on size I do mine in either the instant pot or slow cooker with cola then glaze and finish off In the oven. |

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. Doesn't help my 94year old Nan is coming for dinner who use to be an awesome cook so I feel a slight amount of pressure as my cooking abilities are pretty limited 🙈

Definitely don’t stress. My MIL is a fantastic cook but always loves to come to ours as she said everything tastes ten times better when you haven’t had to cook it yourself.🤣 She’s always very complimentary about whatever I cook and takes a ton home with her so it must be ok.
