A bit of technical advice please

So cleaning out the cupboard under the stairs came across a couple of things.

Lots of dvds that will have photos of the kids on. Don’t have a dvd player but can get a cheap drive and hook it up to the laptop no problem

But we also found an old video recorder that uses those mini video cassette tapes. Now if I want to transfer those to the laptop is it simply a case a finding the correct cable to link the two or is there something mor technical involved?

The cable has differing solutions depending on type of computer and may need a daisy chain type config- I only know this because a friend asked me this question the other week and he needed to connect it to a Mac.
Google and YouTube does have various solutions.

Thanks for this. Have been doing a bit of googling and I simply need an a cable, male AV to to usb. Then just use video capturing software. Think Clipchamp that came with windows 11 should do the trick
