But a few of those 7 are clubs that have gone down and returned fairly quickly. Fulham, Newcastle, Villa, Bournemouth spring to mind without including two of the three going down this season who have also done a bit of yo-yoing.
If you're a club that drops into the Championship and doesn't get back fairly quickly you're going to struggle to get back at all. Edited at 09:09 PM. |

I'm assuming these are examples of teams who took a while to get back otherwise I'm not sure what the point is?
The fact is the differential between the Championship and the Premier League has grown so much that getting up and staying up is now more difficult than ever, even if you're a club with decent financial support that gives you a better chance. I'd expect Leicester to manage it next season providing they aren't hit with points deductions for over spending. If one of Leeds or Southampton make it through the play offs they'll also have a chance. Ipswich is the interesting team. Can their excellent manager and team spirit keep them up at least one season? If a team goes down and doesn't get back whilst they have parachute payments they struggle to get back at all now because competing with teams that do have those payments is difficult. Even a club like Stoke, with incredibly wealthy owners, are having a difficult time and a fair few have left the Championship from the other end instead. The football finance expert Kieran Maguire recently commented that at the start of the EPL it had revenues that were just over 3 times that of the Championship. By 2022/23 that had grown to over 8 times. That's why it's harder now for those clubs to compete. Edited at 07:33 PM. |

10 years ago wolves won league 1. After a double relegation we got straight back out of league 1.
Brentford also got promoted to the champ that season and Sheffield utd were also ineague 1 that season It took another 2 or 3 season to get promoted back to the Premier league. First 2 seasons were amazing. Covid season kinda killed things off then Nuno left. This season we could well end up lower than last season where as this season has been good and last season we were bottom for a long time. |
