Lou Pearlman Netflix Documentary

Just watched this, really interesting, not only if you like all the American 90s boy bands. A lot of it is based on Orlando where Backstreet Boys and Nsync started, in the end it turned out Lou Pearlman was not a nice man. He owned Church St Station and had offices there and offices on Salt Lake Road. Parts of the documentary had info on addresses you recognise in Orlando. I think going to Orlando in the late 90’s got me into these bands and i remember going into FAO Schwarz on I Drive to look at the merch!

Watched this the other day.
Absolutely loved NKOTB when I was little and of course BSB.
Was kind of nice to go down memory lane as I’d forgotten about O town but obviously the rest of it was pretty bleak.

Yeah I’d forgotten about O Town, I didn’t realise how many bands he had started! It was weird because people were sort of thankful he started them all but not for what happened later obviously.

I remember that my teenage daughter was crazy about the Backstreet Boys at exactly the time that we used to visit Florida multiple times a year.
It was strange that over here they were huge and yet mention them to any Floridians and they’d never heard of them. Except one young guy we spoke to went to school with one of them and was astonished that he was in a band and they were famous in Europe!
During this time we took my daughter to one of their concerts in Guildford I believe and the safety was shocking! Everyone was seated on the floor and then they were asked to stand up to suddenly allow masses more to enter and suddenly there was a massive surge to the front with people being crushed against the stage with nowhere to go. I grabbed my daughter’s arm to save her and my husband (6ft tall) became separated from us and ended up way back.
No one could move. You couldn’t escape it as people were constantly pushing and shoving.
Clearly when this venue was booked they weren’t as famous as they had become and this was the result. Several girls fainted from the situation and had to be lifted up by the crowd over the heads to first aid and safety.
I wrote to the venue but just received a get a lawyer because we have one type reply.
So I wrote to Lou Perlman (it was before email) and surprisingly I did get a reply from his team but signed by him I think asking me to call when we were next in the USA!
So I did and naturally just got a please leave a message response! I wasn’t surprised.
So we drove to the address on the letter to just let my daughter see it. I was very surprised at how basic it looked! I was expecting a glossy type glass office type place and what I saw looked like those places you see full of low rise small unassuming offices and there was no activity at all in this one. There may have been gates around it I can’t remember. We drove around it several times and took a few pics on a camera and drove away.
Months later a parcel arrived in the post with a couple of glossy signed photos of two of the band. I have no clue which ones though!

That’s interesting! That sounded scary the concert your daughter went to. The documentary was interesting because everyone seemed to love him but really it was all a bit dodgy. The FBI ended up raiding Church St Station offices. The other building just looked like a boring industrial estate place, think it’s where the blimp parts were stored (which he also had an interest in), the bands said there was no air con and airship bits everywhere!

That concert was shocking and very dangerous. The letter we received from Guildford Council or whoever they were was quite threatening in tone as well, which made me even more annoyed.
I think it was perhaps that industrial building housing the blimp that we saw because the description is similar. It looked deserted too.
I did get through on the phone and the voice on the answerphone was Lou Pearlman so I suppose to be honest he was actually nicer than Guildford as his letter was completely different and he apologised for the situation. It also acknowledged that the venue had been booked months before the group became so popular and was unsuitable for their current status.
Little did I know that the man on the letter head was such an unsavoury character himself!

Awww i remember everyone taking photos by the huge high heel shoe 👠 outside FAO schwarz .. the huge teddy on top was my fave.
I watched it last night and apparently he’s the 6th member and still gets money from any music sold.

Yes not sure who the money goes too now he’s gone! Also they said they only claimed back a tiny amount of all the money!

I guess at least you got some sort of response! I’m sure there’s another documentary about him somewhere will have to look.
