I've had Freeview recorders for about 20 years, wouldn't be without one now!

Started with a topfield which I dearly miss! No Internet but it did allow lots of customization (setting recordings for key words, programming buttons for set skipping times for adverts & having our own folders for recordings... I miss this!).
When that died I got a humax youview 10 years ago, which was replaced under warranty 3 years later & is still in use today!
It is a wired Internet one (though if you're in the know you can get a dongle for it) with the major streaming apps, however it's much faster streaming with our Google tv.
It uses the EE TV app where you can search & set recordings.

Back in November I did get a BT tv box pro 4k from cex (was £65 now £95!) which is essentially the same youview software as our old humax, just faster with more apps & WiFi.

I’m literally able to give sky my 30 days notice tomorrow.

I love the sky platform and start / finish programs in different rooms, but most of what we watch is available on free view / I player / Netflix / prime, so can’t justify the cost for sky anymore.
I’ll probably put some of the saving towards a YouTube subscription too.

My Sky TV goes off tomorrow.

May be willing to sign back up if they offer a good post-cancellation deal, but otherwise happy to go without for a while as I just don't watch quite enough stuff that isn't freeview/other streaming platforms to justify it.

I have no complaints with the platform itself, love being able to either record or download programmes, and I like having content in UHD, but not at the price they want.

Will consider going to Now TV for stuff I wanted from Sky Atlantic etc. Would consider Sky Stream if it was a very good deal. But it's on them to win me back - it's not an essential to me, just a 'nice to have'.

You can get Virgin over broadband without the area being cabled.

I'm looking at options at the moment.

This is an interesting article about cutting the cord.

My friend had no joy ringing Sky to get a better deal, but spoke to one of the kiosks you get in shopping centres, and he got 1/2 price contract. The guy basically said he didn't care how little they pay, as long as they signed up to a new contract.

I had virgin and originally ntlworld for more 20+ years but decided enough was enough when my contract finished and they wanted to double it. They weren't interested in negotiating so we just have their broadband and bought 2 kindle firesticks when the sale was on.

If need be we will dip into Netflix or NowTV when we want, and of course 6mths free Disney+.

Yes it's a different way of working but suits us and saves us money.

Outdoor for us. Got a guy to come do it about 10 years ago (old aerial leaked water through the cable & rusted!). Cost us £140 to fit a new aerial to the chimney stack & not only replace the lead into the living room but also put new ones into our bedroom & my man cave at the back of the house 😂
