My parents paid for the flights & accommodation in Spain as we got married in Gibraltar, plus paid for our meal after, only about 18 of us. Plus paid for my dress (£100) so was about £3000 in total. My in laws contributed nothing.

My niece is getting married next year. Great big wedding. My sister hasn't been asked for a contribution and hasn't offered anything. She is dead chuffed but I would want to pay for something.

We paid for one son and one daughters wedding and half our younger sons wedding. Our eldest DILs widowed mum wasn't in a position to pay much although she bought the dress and made the bridesmaid dresses. Her Grandmother paid for the bouquets.
Our daughters wedding was very much seen as ours to cover so we did. That was a long time ago though. . Younger son got married later and we put in same as her parents. Edited at 10:46 PM. |

Really small wedding.
Just popped into Registry Office. Paid the extra for the faster Marriage Licence or whatever it was for. I paid for them both to have dinner out and gave them £1k. |

Our daughter is getting married next year and we were unsure how much money to gift to them. My thought was £3000 but my husband decided on £5000. Daughter was quite overcome, don't think she was expecting as much. Both my daughter and future son in law are very thrifty and good at saving ... a great combination of a Scots marrying a Yorkshire lad, lol , so perhaps we could have given a little bit less.

There is definitely no right or wrong answer, my parents bought my dress and my mum made my bridesmaids dresses with the material I bought, we had a very big wedding, my father in law gave us £100.
We have 3 children so the amount we give will need to be an amount that we can do for all 3, if any of them don’t get married then they will receive that amount as a gift 👍🏻 I would however really try to convince my children to have a small, less expensive wedding, I could weep when I think at how much ours cost 😖😖😖 |

Our son and DIL were married at Gretna Green 18 months ago, started off a smallish wedding but things do tend to get added on!
We paid for the wedding package at the hotel ( which included the meal, drinks, photographer) and our son’s outfit, DILs mum paid for her dress and the two flower girls dresses. I think all families are different depending on circumstances, no right or wrong answer. |

DD is getting marred in Cape Town next year. I’m not sure how much I’ll be contributing for sure, but will put money towards the costs of venue etc. I will also have to pay for my Mums costs to fly out there as there is no way she can afford to go otherwise. I will keep it all very balanced though as I have 3 other children and will need to do the same for them.
