Come across this thread again and thought I would update my tables for the last few years.
2018 2019 (the last time I had enough people to warrant lugging the circular table top downstairs!) 2020 when covid distancing meant us 4 at one end and my parents at the other having come in the patio doors… 2021 when I was supposed to ge going to my brothers for Christmas dinner, but Hannah came down with Covid on 23rd December so this was a last minute throw together with us 3 at one end and a seat at the other for Hannah, who ended up too ill to leave her room 😳 2022 when we could all be together again but still enough space at the basic table without the circular top. I used a tree with all our names on it in wee stars. Our ‘family tree’ This year 2023, I finally had someone else cook my Christmas dinner! And I was at my brothers house, so no table from me in 2023! Love seeing all your tables ladies. Love this thread!

I’ve just stumbled upon this thread by accident, I was down here looking for the referral code one, but I couldn’t just read and run.
Scottish Nellie, do you decorate those tables yourself? Like do you create the centre pieces too I mean? Oh my goodness, they are amazing, you put so much work in, you are clearly very creative. Even the one you had to put together at the last minute because your daughter was ill is top notch. I’m going to have to up my Christmas table game for this year…if it all goes well, it might be a good distraction from my terrible cooking 😂 |

Yeah I do. I have boxes and boxes of stuff up in the loft labelled by colour. Then I just raid those for whatever colours I fancy.
They’re not as complicated as they look. The fanciest one is probably the gold one which was a wicker tray with a polystyrene block in it with all the wee bits and candles just stuck into it and built up adding and adding till it was full. Then I just take them all apart again and toss the bits back into the colour coded boxes and back up the loft. The thrown together one you mentioned is just a big roll of stiff gold ribbon from Costco, pinched in at intervals using white cable ties with some fairy lights under to shine through the ribbon. This year I pulled out that same ribbon (which still has the cable ties around it) and put it on my tree Last years was a light up tree bought from Home Bargains then I just laid fairy lights and sparkly branches along the length of the table and just kept piling things on, hiding the base of the tree and all the wires for the lights. I’ve used the same tall vase umpteen times as the centre piece with different things chucked in. The green and red ball is just plastic Holly and extra red sparkly branch bits around a polystyrene ball, stuck onto a metal pole stuck down into the vase. I have a massive old umbrella frame up the loft that I’ve kept for years but have never quite worked out how to use it! Maybe some day 🤣 My house is actually really basic & plain. I don’t do creative stuff really other than Christmas tables. I just enjoy doing those. I like things really plain the rest of the time and all my surfaces are clear.

They look so impressive, I bet your family look forward to seeing what you’ve created each year.
I’m very jealous of your talents. I’m looking forward to seeing the umbrella frame, looking all fabulous, in one of your future table photos 🤩 |
