Refereeing and VAR
So one weekend into the premier league season and we’ve already had the first apology from PGMOL following Wolves being denied a penalty.
The reason VAR isn’t working is because refereeing standards are as low as I can remember in 45 years of watching football Too many simple errors week in week out |

But ten hag said it wasn't a penalty 🙄
No way that would have been not given the other way round. Apologies are as useful as a chocolate teapot. But used to those after last season. 3 people missed that. Onfield you can accept. But not sure the var refs looked at to not overturn. All Dropped next weekend.. Var man not for the first time... |

This will be another season of frustrating VAR decisions.
I remember when we all used to get wound up because a ref made the wrong decision or missed something before VAR but this is 100 times worse. |

Here's a good stat for people who think there's no corruption, or at least bias (either conscious or unconscious) when it comes to VAR decisions:
Rangers are obviously are a massive team in their own country, they have not conceded a penalty in their last 57 Scottish league games. Meanwhile, where they are minnows in European football teams, they have conceded 6 in the last 11 European games. If the football authorities genuinely want to stop VAR controversy & conspiracy theories(which they don't as it keeps their product in the news) they would have to sack the VAR guy from the Wolves game - there is no way the ref should miss such a blatant foul, but absolutely no excuse for VAR not to overturn it. If they were mic'd up I'd love to hear them explain why that pen wasn't given. Edited at 10:46 AM. |

I could understand the Ref at Old Trafford missing the penalty in the heat of the moment, but the VAR team have 2 minutes or so to see the incident from different angles have no excuse.
Makes you think they had a bet for United to win. |

Horrendous decision and made even worse by blowing his whistle before the ball went in to rule out VAR looking at it, surely this ref should be dropped as well if the one in the Man Utd game has been.

Probably because Rangers do the majority of attacking in their SPL games, no?
The same thing was levelled at United (Manchester ) during the Ferguson years, such as when was the last penalty awarded at old Trafford for a visiting team. The answer to that was the fact I've been to games at OT where the visiting team barely made it into United's half, so it stands to reason penalties would be hard to come by
