Universal Studios theme park coming to the UK (possibly)

Remember those rumours that Universal were maybe thinking of opening a theme park somewhere in Europe?

Well, it appears that Comcast NBCUniversal have recently bought potentially ~500 acres of land in Bedford and have registered the domain universalstudiosgreatbritain. And, of course, this has led people to speculate that a Universal theme park may be coming to the UK…

ETA: This has now been (sort of) officially confirmed by Universal Studios themselves, see here:

bbc/news/uk-englan...herts-67761926

It's still early days yet and Universal are only "exploring the possibility" but it does seem that Universal are thinking of building a park in Bedfordshire.

(BTW, note that this is different to the London Resort which has been talked about before over the last decade or so and gotten nowhere. Earlier this year, the company that runs the London Resort went into administration and, more recently, Paramount started the process of suing the company due to “irregularities”. I think we can safely say that one is dead.

It would be so great to have a theme park here that has actual theming and isn’t just big thrill rides. I enjoy AT and Thorpe Park but nowhere here comes anywhere close to the Orlando parks.

The location isn't great, can't see much for people to visit outside of the park, so no real attraction for longer stays, except a 45 minute journey to London on the aptly named BedPan Line. Of course they could always visit the hole that is Bedford and see the dying high street and its numerous charity shops.

They should choose Bradford instead of Bedford. Flatten the place and replace it with a theme park.

Cambridge is 30 mins away/Milton Keynes is 20 mins away,Warner Bros tour is 30mins away.It has direct rail links from King's cross and crucially London (harry potter connection) and centre parcs 5 mins away .Two direct road networks for travel in the A1m and the M1 split either side and also the most expensive road network upgrade in the a428 connecting the nearby main roads to Cambridge,so will be even quicker in future.

Yeah Bedford isnt the nicest of places, but I can see the appeal as a position
