I’ve ordered some sort of chocolate pine cones from M&S (I can no longer change my order so can’t have a look to see what they are now so no idea if we will actually like them! Bit of an impulse order!) and a panacotta vanilla (and I think raspberry!) star from Sainsbury’s - never had either before so it’s a bit of a lottery this year! 😂😂

Too funny!

... although I know we're not the only Christmas Vienetta Lovers as its ALWAYS sold out everywhere when it's close to Christmas 🤣
(I've got 3 in the freezer already 😉👍🏻 ... plain of course. The new fancy varieties are just wrong in our opinion 🫣🤪. My mum dared to buy the mint version one year... my brother was up in arms 🤣🙈 )

It’s so easy but tastes lovely.
We’ll also have Christmas pud, Yule log, ice cream and a homemade cheesecake lurking over the festive period - so plenty of options. I like a free flow approach to pudding as people fancy different things.
How do you do the custard layer? Thats they layer thats a complete fail for me 🙈

I have a cunning trick I use to make the perfect custard for my christmas trifle. It’s called going to waitrose and buying the poshest looking ready made custard i can find. If its got the vanilla bits in it i reckon its good enough! Life is too short to stress about custard consistency

I'm making Tiramsu and bannoffee pie. Both made the day before and really easy to make - delicious too 😋

I bought the Tesco finest one with the vanilla bits in, it is delicious 😋 but its so runny in a trifle, how do you set it?

I don’t set it. I’m quite happy with a trifle having a gooey layer. Do you want it firm like blancmange?

Probably not set to that extent, but whenever I make it and take the first serving out the custard oozes out into the empty space created by me taking a serving out, if that makes sense 🙈
I did wonder if I whisked up some cream then folded that into the custard, that would make it better 🤷
I don’t like packet custard, I know you can make that thicker.
I really want a trifle now 🤣🤣

I was feeling bored with my usual Christmas desserts, so I've changed my plans a little this year. Usually I make a Christmas pudding, Christmas Cake and mince pies. This year I will still make the pudding as I think they might kill me if I don't! Instead of mince pies I'm going to make a wreath using puff pastry and mincemeat. I'm also going to make a Yule log and a trifle. There are going to be 17 of us on Christmas day, so need lots of desserts.

Fingers crossed everyone else is ok with this break from the traditional Christmas offerings! I have made a Christmas cake for my parents as a present so they will still get one.
