I don’t like packet custard, I know you can make that thicker.
I really want a trifle now 🤣🤣
My mum still makes custard with Birds custard powder. She always adds extra for trifle to make it thicker 👍🏻

Rum and sultana bread and butter pudding.
I soak the sultanas in rum for at least 24 hours and use brioche for the bread. It's delicious!

We had trifle at a friend's on Sunday, he puts a tablespoon of cornflour in with his egg yolks- a Delia Smith recipe apparently

Thanks everyone for taking the time to share your puds. Lots of great ideas that I'm off to look at. Sounds like I need another course with the wine/biscuits mentioned by GillH.

Was going to make birds custard but liking the idea of buying the poshest ready made one I can find, anything to save time. Thanks everyone and I hope all your puds go down well.

If you’re worried about the posh custard being too thin mix together spoonful of cornflour and spoonful of milk then add to custard and heat it gently to thicken. Cool slightly then pour over and leave to set in frudge

We’ll be having Christmas pudding but also have home made mince pies with home made mincemeat but using puff pastry instead of shortcrust and topping with a marzipan star, home made Christmas cake for tea. Have also got on order a Tesco Yule log and a Black Forest trifle.

We have a choice of Christmas pud (DH always has it) or the yummy M&S sticky toffee pudding trifle which I've just been down for.
As I was putting it in the fridge I remembered that earlier I'd bought some Chocolate ganache pinecones and a Christmas Colin Caterpillar - luckily will still be in date for our family buffet on 27th!

DH is making a trifle (for himself, no one else likes trifle), DD is going to make a Clootie Dumpling (surprise for DH as his mum used to always make one but is now in a care home with dementia, it is her recipe too) and she's making a few individual creme brulee's and some homemade meringues. I have some Mackie's ice cream in the freezer and I'm going to attempt some homemade whisky ice cream. We had a wee trip to the Highlands for a few nights in November and the couple we rent the accommodation with gave us some of this and it was delicious. She's given me the recipe which is super easy so fingers crossed I can make it as good as theirs.

We are having a chocolate and vanilla wreath thing from M&S, Apple, spiced pear and ginger crumble cake, sticky toffee pudding, both with Vanilla custard and butterscotch ice-cream for deserts this year.
